Guest MATT Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 hi, ive got road paint on the side of my gal, on the paint work! does anyone know how to get it off? thanks matt Quote
_dg Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 Well, they use gas burners to remove it from the road so..... How much? Will it pick off, or a stanley blade and a steady hand? Followed by some polishing Quote
Guest MATT Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 its worst at the front, just behind the FL wheel, up to yet i have tried, washing it, using tar remover, Paraffin, Polish, and it wont come off, if you scrape it with your nail, the 'weak' parts of it come off, but that would take for ever to do, as it is all along the lower side of the car. the difference between the road and my car, is one is highly polished paint, the other is high grip tarmac. matt - will get a picture on here tonight. ferguscawley Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Try contact cleaner. The best I have found is 'motul' contact cleaner - comes in a red/white spray can - available from most good motorcycle shops. Spray a wee bit onto a clean rag and apply/rub to the affected area only. Ferg Quote
Guest MATT Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 i went in a Vauxhall garage today, told them about it, and he said 'hang on a minute' he walked off, and came back with a small empty milk container, he then opened a big tin of something, and filled the bottle and gave it to me - NOTE THE Quote
chromedome Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Does it smell like those pear drop sweets? Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Matt...Try it on the wifes car first......if it peels the paint ......make it look like she has spilt something on it !!!!! Quote
Guest MATT Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Does it smell like those pear drop sweets? its smells like a very, very weak smell of petrol/paraffin/BBQ lighter blocks. it doesn't smell like pear drops - although i haven't had them for a while, because i haven't done any motorway driving for a while. i will try this stuff, either tomorrow, or Saturday. matt  Quote

Guest MATT Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Right, ive tackled it today, and ive won!!!here is a few pics of what it was like, some didn't come out too well, so ive posted the ones that did,http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0019.jpghttp://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0020.jpg Then i got this stuff which the Vauxhall man GAVE me,http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0022.jpg applied it, scrubbed it, nothing happened, tried it about 5 times - still nothing, so then i got a soft brush, and did it a few times, still nothing, then i got out the Jet Wash as well, started to have some evect on the weak parts, then i tried scratching it off with my thumb nail - IT WORKED!!!, all this took 2 hours and 20 minutes. i then washed the car, that's another hour, then i gave it a good all-round Polish, windows and body work, alloys, that's another two hours, If it wasn't for the number plate (which ive rubbed out) you would think it was new, total time spent = 5 hours and 20 minutes, all worth it, take a look at these,http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0028.jpgthis is the area, where the paint was. http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0023.jpg http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0024.jpgLOOK AT THAT REFLECTION!!! http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0025.jpgalmost like a mirror http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0031_0001.jpg http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/mjcbweb/fordgalaxy/000_0034.jpg I love my galaxy - i think ime going to sleep well tonight!!
